Massachusetts defensive back Lubern Figaro was all set to make his announcement Wednesday night, but then decided to take some more time.

“I really wanted to get it off my chest,” Figaro said. “But then I realized I didn’t want to rush anything and want to make the right decision.”

Figaro posted on Twitter that he wants to take more visits before making his choice.

Figaro has a final four of Michigan State, Boston College, Vanderbilt and Syracuse. The only school he has visited of the group is Boston College, but visits to the rest are on tap.

“I’ll be coming out to MSU in three or four weeks,” he said.

What has kept him interested until this point? The swarming Spartan defense.

“I love the defense,” he said. “They are a top defensive team in the country and can really take me to the next level in my game.”

Figaro said he has been in touch with Pat Narduzzi and Harlon Barnett, and talked with them last Friday.

– Chicago De La Salle offensive tackle Jamarco Jones will be making his college decision public at 1 p.m. Thursday. His finalists are Michigan State, Ohio State and Michigan.

The expectation among most analysts is Jones will wind up at OSU, but no one would be too surprised if he chose MSU.

Jones visited all three of his finalists over the weekend of June 14-17. He spent Sunday, June 16, in East Lansing during the one-day camp, at which time he spent the day with MSU commits Chase Gianacakos and Brian Allen.

Everybody come up to De La Salle this Thursday at 1pm! I will be making my college decision between Michigan Michigan State and Ohio State.

– Latest MSU commit, West Deptford (N.J.) running back Gerald Owens, not only makes his mark as a physical runner, but he fills the stat sheets, as well.

Last year, as a junior, Owens ran for 1,701 yards and 26 touchdowns. Those numbers followed a sophomore campaign in which he posted 1,563 yards and 27 touchdowns. West Deptford won state titles in both seasons.

– New Haven (Ind.) wide receiver Jordan Hogue impressed at Michigan State’s 7 on 7 camp and positional camp in the past couple weeks.

Hogue and his 7 on 7 teammates from Fort Wayne-based Athletes With Purpose (AWP) were in the national tournament at IMG Academy in Florida and placed third last week.

Hogue had 13 touchdown catches in the tournament and made many highlight-worth grabs — as you can see below.

– Michigan State made the top groups for a couple of 2014 prospects this week.

Northmont (Clayton, Ohio) defensive end Terry Ramsey has a final three of Michigan State, Louisville and West Virginia. Ramsey visited for the Spartans’ elite one-day camp on June 16.

Mountain Pointe (Phoenix, Ariz.) wide receiver Jalen Brown made a Midwest tour with stops at Michigan State, Michigan, Ohio State and Wisconsin.

MSU, OSU and Wisconsin moved to the final nine for the talented receiver, joined by Arizona, Oregon, Oregon State, UCLA, USC and Vanderbilt.
